1st, 2nd Grade Class Journal - Teachers: Deepa

As usual the kids chanted all the daily prayers. They learned 2 verses in Guru Stotram and they enjoyed it. Please practice this at home (My Prayers book - page 85). They want to recite this when Swamiji visits. They also learned a new bhajan (Radhe Govinda). They seem to enjoy bhajans more than regular shlokas. We will strive to teach bhajans more frequently to keep them motivated.
During BalRamayana time, they learned about Shravana and what King Dasharata had done to him and how Shravana's parents' curse came back to haunt Dasharata later. They learned that sometimes people make mistakes but good people always own up to it like Dasharata did when he told Shravana's parents that he had killed their son. Some kids also said they would be kind and forgive the man that killed their son. :-)

For art, they drew a Kaavada, which Shravana used to carry his parents from one place to another. Some of the kids brought their material for the roleplay that they are going to do when Swamiji visits. Vishnu, Varun were the Gods that were represented.

Parents, please help your kids prepare lines for the role-play and send a written or printed sheet to BalaVihar next class. If you need help with costumes, let us know and we can pool our resources together to make it easy. Thank you for your cooperation.

1st, 2nd Grade Class Journal - Teacher : Deepa

The class started with daily prayers. They continued to learn Guru Stotram. The kids continued their Bal Ramayana story where they learned about how Ram was sent to the forest by his father and how the people around him reacted. They learned new characters such as Guha and Sumantra. They learned the important lesson of taking happy news and sad news in stride - something Lord Ram did when he was asked to become the king one day and asked to go to he first the next day.
For Swamiji's visit, we decided each kid would dress up as a God and talk a few words about who they are. Some of the choices so far are - Vishnu, Ram, Krishna, Hanuman, Varun and Narasimha. They have been asked to prepare their lines with their parents' help so we could discuss in class next week.
